DfE Initial Teacher Training (ITT) reform: Information for schools

The Department for Education produced a slide deck in November 2023 to support schools in understanding the recent changes to Initial Teacher Training and how this might affect them. The DfE, ITT providers and Teaching School Hubs know what an important role schools play in training teachers and are keen to ensure schools are informed and ready to implement these changes that come into play for 2024-25 delivery.

What is Intensive Training and Practice (ITAP) and what does it mean for schools?

In December 2023, the Department for Education published a summary of what ITT providers and their partner schools need to know about the new requirements for Intensive Training and Practice (ITAPs):

Intensive Training and Practice

The DfE document provides additional detail to help accredited ITT providers and their partner schools to understand the ITAP element of ITT, and to incorporate it into their ITT curricula in a way that maximises the potential benefits to, and impact on, trainees’ practice and understanding.
