Everyone needs a TRN to register for an NPQ. You do not need to be a teacher to get a TRN.

If you’ve never been given a TRN, use the Get a teacher reference number service to request a TRN to register for a NPQ.

You’ll need your National Insurance number (if you have one) and proof of your identity, for example a:

Find information about how the Teaching Regulation Agency processes your data on the teacher self-service site.

The Teaching Regulation Agency will use the information you send to create a permanent record and your TRN.

Your ID documents will be deleted once your request is processed.
